About our school
Anson Street School is a School for Specific Purpose (SSP) providing specialist and intensive support for students with diverse learning needs in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.
We cater for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 who meet the NSW Department of Education’s disability criteria.
At Anson Street School, we aspire for every student to achieve independence through learning. We foster a culture where all students are known, valued and challenged, and where high expectations underpin everything we do. We believe that every student can learn and succeed, and we are committed to providing personalised pathways that support growth, achievement and wellbeing.
Our highly skilled and dedicated staff deliver high-quality, student-centred teaching through evidence-informed practices, including explicit teaching, structured support and meaningful feedback. Learning programs are tailored to individual needs and draw from both mainstream and Life Skills curricula. For our secondary students, this includes opportunities to study electives, participate in work experience, and access a range of pathways towards the achievement of the HSC and post-school success.
We place a strong emphasis on student engagement, wellbeing and belonging. Through consistent, predictable and inclusive practices, we support students to regulate, connect and actively engage in their learning. Student voice is valued and promoted through leadership opportunities, personalised learning plans and authentic participation in school life.
Strong partnerships with families, community and external agencies are central to our approach. We work collaboratively to ensure that every student is supported holistically, with access to specialist services including speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, counselling and other supports as required.
The Orange Learning Centre (OLC) is managed by Anson Street School and includes two tutorial classes and the Orange Suspension Centre (OSC), supporting students from local primary and secondary schools. The Tutorial Program operates as a transitional setting, providing short-term, individualised behavioural and emotional support for students with complex needs. The OSC supports students to remain engaged in learning during periods of suspension, with a strong focus on regulation, reflection and successful reintegration into their home school.
Our purpose-built facilities are fully accessible and include a range of specialised learning environments such as a sensory gym and playground, hydrotherapy pool, gymnasium, café, bouldering wall and Skills House. Our on-site farm supports programs in viticulture, horticulture and agriculture, promoting sustainability, enterprise and real-world skill development.
Students at Anson Street School are active and engaged members of their community. They participate in a wide range of extracurricular opportunities, including sport, creative arts, excursions and community-based programs such as Riding for the Disabled (RDA) and sailing.
Through strong relationships, high expectations and a commitment to continuous improvement, Anson Street School provides a supportive and dynamic learning environment where every student is empowered to succeed in school and beyond.
